1. Is your advert fit for purpose?
In this unit my brief was asking me to create a 30 second crunchie chocolate bar advert. In most crunchie adverts that I have seen when they are promoting they show a lot of chocolate covering the crunchie bar and it turning it into different shapes which might be really appealing to young children because chocolate turning it shapes might be engaging for them. Also there is a crunchie advert of a woman in a meeting and her mouth starts moving because she wants a crunchie bar this could also be engaging for young children because it's really funny the way the mouth moves.
In my advert I think it appeals to teenagers more than young children because it is based upon teenagers aged 16 - 18 and also it has some romance when the girl gets saved by the boy. Romance is something that teenagers around this age experience so therefore it could be quiet appealing to them. The audience members that I think would enjoy the actually crunchie adverts promoted on television are children aged 5 - 8 since these adverts seem very childish this can also be for all races, also in the socio economic class of C1 - E.
In my advert I would say that my advert was for teenagers aged 16 - 18 just like the characters in the advert because at that age thats when you would see teenagers in relationships since this is about romance I would say that it was an appropriate age for this. I would say it also goes for all races and people in the socio economic class of C1 - E.
I think that my advert subverts other crunchie chocolate bar adverts because i think that they usually aim crunchie adverts at younger audience just because it's chocolate and children love chocolate. However not just young children love chocolate for example teenagers can enjoy it and so can adults. Also in my advert there are things that happens in those 30 seconds whereas in the others I think personally they didn't really have any. Whereas things that happen and basing it on in real life would make it more popular.
The uses and gratifications that I intend for my audience to gain is social interaction so that if they see my advert then they might tell their friend about it. So that their friends might watch the advert if their friend has positive things to say or even negatives. Also I was hoping that my audience could get some personal identifications for example in my advert the boy has a crush on the girl but she doesn't really notice him until he saves her so therefore a boy in the type of situation of having a crush on a girl which would give the boy personal identifications with the boy character in the advert.
2. Clarity of communication
I think in my pitch to my peers and teacher I think I communicated well and all points were explained however their were a few gaps but that was cleared up when my class gave feedback to us. I think that I could have done better by changing my voice to make it more engaging instead of sounding really dull.
Also the pace that I was talking could have been improved for example when I had to read a slide from my paper I was eager to finish the pitch because I didn't like standing in front of people so my pace that I was talking was talking really quickly and I think that I could have done better when I was talking directly to my audience which might have engaged them more.
The reason that I really needed to look at my paper to know what I needed to say was because one of my group members was absent so if I had more time to prepare i think it would have went better. However some good things that I think I did well was that in each slide that I had i think I went to the most detail than the others for example when I was talking about the history of cadbury's I think I went into enough detail in good amount of timing.
3. Appropriateness to audience compared with original intentions
Our original target audience was both young children and teenagers of both genders however the primary target audience gender was males and the secondary target audience being females because of the advert that we wanted to was based around a football game taking place.
But when we got comments back from our peers and teachers they didn't understand why a crunchie would be relevant during a football game. Therefore we decided to change our idea so it was only aimed at teenagers and the target audience gender is still primarily males since our main character was male and our secondary audience was females since the girl was saved by the boy.
In my advert I was going to try and appeal my advert differently than how existing crunchie adverts to try and change it up so it's not boring and because all the other crunchie adverts seemed to be aimed at younger audiences we decided to aim ours at teenagers so it was a different group of people that could enjoy a crunchie advert as well. Also in my advert there was a bit of humour so that would make it a little more engaging for my specific target audience to watch. The uses and gratifications that were offered for our target audience was escapism because in real life eating a crunchie would't actually give you power to save someone from getting hurt.
4. Effectiveness of techniques

We used a variety of different shots for example a shot that we used was a close up of the boy's face when he sees the girl about to be hurt by falling books we thought was very effective so you could see his emotions without even saying anything which was seen at 0.14 seconds into the advert.
Another scene that we shot was a medium long shot of him walking down the hall way which i thought looked like a really good shot since it shows what he's wearing, what he's carrying and the environment around him this was seen 0.01 seconds into the advert.
Another scene that we shot for our advert was medium shot of the boy eating a crunchie bar this is because we wanted to show the crunchie and exactly what we are promoting and also the expression on his face at the time to show if it taste good or bad and obviously if its a good facial expression it's going to make people want to go out and buy a crunchie bar. This can be seen at 0.16 seconds. 5. Effectiveness of Content
My advert is about a teenage boy who sees his crush who doesn't notice him at all but when she is about to get hurt with books falling on top of her head he eats a crunchie to save her from getting hurt and she finally notices him. This advert idea was my friends idea who was in my group and the reason we had with going with this idea was because it was much easier to film whereas before when we deciding which idea we wanted to go with we were going to do it on a football pitch but if we needed to go back and re shoot some scenes we would need all those people to come back and wear exactly the same thing they did when we were filming which just seemed to difficult to get everyone to agree too. This appeals to my audience because it is located in a school and it's based around teenagers and the teenagers so teenagers can identify with school since they go to school everyday. Also teenagers do go through romance which is also something that they can identify with.
6. Effectiveness of conventions
An advert form that i used for my advert was anti realist the reason that we had decided to use this was because we thought it would be boring make a realist advert because our target audience we thought would get bored and not want to watch it. The moment was seen when the boy ate the crunchie and he had all this power to go and save the girl from getting hurt by the books he had the strength and also the speed to go and save her.
Also i though it was more engaging and my target audience would really enjoy it. This moment was seen at 0.16 seconds. An advert style that we had decided to use was humour when the boy fell over and the expression on his face being humorous this is because since my target audience was teenagers they like watching humorous things and they like to be made laugh this would engage them to keep watching since it happens right at the beginning and they wont want to turn the channel over.
7. Impact of work
My advert did have a clear message which was that if boys eat this crunchie bar then they would have power to save someone and also it gets them noticed by their crush. However this could be seen as misleading since this wouldn't actually happen in real life and people might buy the crunchie bar thinking that they are going to end up like the boy in the advert so that could cause a few complaints from people who buy the crunchie bar after seeing my advert. I think that my advert would get reviewed by the ASA because it's misleading to my audience and they may receive complaints of people saying things like it doesn't work when you try to get noticed by your crush.
8. Technical quality
The only issues that we had with equipment was that when we were filming the camera was running out of battery which mean't that we need to charge it while creating the advert because we didn't have a lot of time and some groups needed to use the camera. Also some other problems was that when we left o9ur footage on the camera or even on the SD card sometimes our footage would be missing which meant that we had to go and film again even if the scene we had done was perfect.
Our choice of location only had one minor issue which was that it was based in a classroom which meant that we had to film around the schedule of the classroom and when it was going to be free and also when we were all free to film and that's when we could film. The editing within the 30 second limit was difficult because we had a lot of footage and it was important but unfortunately it never actually made it in to the advert for example we had created another humorous scene when the girl says something right at the very end but due having to keep it within the time limit we couldn't add it.
9. Aesthetic Qualities
The mise en scene for my advert worked really well since for my production set it was in a classroom to show it was in a classroom we had desks and chairs and a whiteboard which shows that it is in a learning area so the props really defined what sort of place it was located.
The actors in the advert were teenagers and that was shown by the way the acted for example the boy was very nerdy whereas the girl was on her phone like a normal teenager usually is. Also it was shown that the boy was very nerdy because he was quite clumsy and also he was carrying books.
The costumes that we used was just quite normal for what a teenager would wear for example for the boy he was wearing a hoodie and jeans and for the girl she was wearing a leather jacket and jeans this is what a typical teenager would wear. I think that the way that the characters were represented was effective was because the target audience could identify with them and also the location since teenagers go to school/college etc.
